Gov. Alfred E. Smith carried only six of the twenty-eight precincts in Rutherford County; Cool Springs No. 1 gave him 131 votes to 130 for Hoover; Cool Springs No. 2 cast 452 votes in his favor against 328 opposed to him; Colfax No. 1 gave the New York Governor the biggest lead, 102 votes , or 297 for and 195 against him; Colfax No. 2 returned 192 votes for Smith and 177 against him, or a majority of 15. Cliffside cast 356 votes for the Democratic nominee for President and 336 for Hoover, Smith's lead being 20. Chimney Rock No. 1 gave Smith a two to one majority, the vote being Smith 74, Hoover 33.
