Lala Humphries
On Shelby Highway
Lala is Ben Humphries' daughter, photographed here with Delpha Rollins' house in the background. Many houses in town were built on such steep grades that you could almost store another house underneath. Under such a home you could usually find a coal pile, kindling, castaway toys, garden tools, and the occasional worn-out Frigidaire or Bendix washer that one day would make it to the trash pile.
