Cliffside School's principal for the past 36 years, Phillip White, will retire in a just a few days. Although we hate to see him go, we're comforted by the fact that he'll still be nearby, watching over Cliffside and all it stands for, and hopefully have more time to reflect on and share his knowledge of our town. He's done so much for the community and the school. Although we owe him a debt that can't be paid, we can show up to honor his service and commitment.
Make a note: On Sunday, May 22 at the school cafeteria from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. please drop by and say thank you.
Phillip, a Forest City native, came to Cliffside in 1967 as a teacher. When Mr. Beatty retired in 1969, Phillip was made principal. Through his efforts and stewardship the school has remained through the years a model for the county and state. It is consistently acknowledged for its high academic standards and achievements. In 1999, it was Phillip's foresight and hard work that caused the Cliffside School building to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. But for that, our beloved school might have gone the way of the Memorial Building.
Don't forget:
